The office of the Ministry of Economic Development has been opened to apply for the Smart Money incentive for innovative startups

Dal 24 June 2021 innovative startups can apply for the incentive Smart Money of the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) to carry out development projects in collaboration with other players in the innovation ecosystem

In particular, the concessions are paid against:

  • of expenses related to realization of an activity plan, carried out in collaboration with the actors of the innovation ecosystem operating for the development of innovative companies
  • of the entrance to the risk capital of the innovative start-ups of the actors of the innovation ecosystem.

The development project pursued by startups must :

  • be based on a innovative solution to be offered on the market, already identified at the time of submitting the subsidy application, although to be consolidated in the more operational aspects, that meets needs that make the project scalable;
  • foresee thedirect commitment of the shareholders of the proposing company and / or a teams with adequate technical and management skills, in terms of technological and work contribution, or alternatively provide for the consolidation of the team and of these skills through the search for professionalism available on the market;
  • be aimed at achieving the prototype (Minimum Viable Product) o la first industrial application of the product o service to certify customer and / or investor feedback

Overall, resources are foreseen for 9.5 million euros. Le concessions relating to implementation of business plans are granted in the form of non-repayable grant, equal to 80% of the expenses incurred and deemed eligible for the implementation of the plans, in the maximum limit of 10.000,00 euro for innovative start-up.

In the face ofinvestment in the company's capital operated by an innovation ecosystem actor, the same company is granted a further concession in the form of non-repayable grant, in an amount equal to 100% of the investment in risk capital implemented by the actors of the innovation ecosystem enabled, within the overall limit of 30.000,00 euro for innovative start-up.

They are authorized to operate within the interventions “Smart Money” the following actors dell’innovation ecosystem:

  • certified incubators and accelerators;
  • innovation hub, or bodies that provide businesses with services to introduce technologies, develop digital transformation projects, access the innovation ecosystem at the regional level, national and European;
  • research organizations.

I'm, also, enabled to implement the interventions in risk capital the following additional actors:

  • business angels;
  • qualified investors.
