Production chain 4 – Development of techniques and use of certified Calabrian wood for structural purposes

Why enhance Calabrian wood?

The use of wood in construction is gathering great interest both in the public sector, both in the private sector with a structural and non-structural function.

However the raw material of local origin, it is still heavily underused today.

An important resource in Calabria is represented by the Laricio pine, for which a has never yet been developed know-how on its classification and industrial use.

It is currently marginally destined for minor uses such as packaging, low-quality timber and also firewood.

Goals of the Green HoMe Polo

Enhancement of local wooden material, favoring the production of products and components to be used in construction such as lamellar structures in wood or mixed wood and other by-products and / or waste.

Forest certification of Calabrian wood resources. Under-utilization of Calabrian resources, Pino Laricio in the first place, it has the immediate consequence of not cultivating the woods. Valuing these resources, in addition to the increase in the labor force of production personnel, it would also have an enormous impact in terms of employment of the manpower required for harvesting operations in the forest, transport and assortment of timber.
